Golf and wellness weekend: Courses with spa hotel

Guide1 September 2026

A good golf and wellness weekend comes down to three things: short distances between hotel and course, two tee times you can plan around and a spa that is still open after 6 pm. Everything else is a bonus. If you arrive on Friday afternoon and are back in the car on Sunday at midday, you have around 48 hours — about ten of which go on golf. How you spend the rest decides whether the trip feels like recovery or like a weekend full of appointments.

Why golf and wellness go so well together

On foot, 18 holes are between nine and twelve kilometres depending on the course, plus 60 to 80 swings with full rotation. You feel it in the evening in your lower back, hips and shoulders — especially if you do not play much during the week and then play two rounds back to back.

That is exactly where the spa comes in. Heat, a few laps in the pool or a massage on Friday evening loosen you up before the main round instead of repairing you afterwards. Anyone who arrives on Friday, heads straight into the sauna and goes out for the round early on Saturday usually plays the last six holes far more steadily than someone who tees off immediately after four hours in the car.

The second point is banal but important: you do not both have to do the same thing. If one of you only wants to play one round and the other two, that works at a golf hotel without any discussion.

How to plan the weekend

Friday: Arrive by about 4 pm, check in, spa. No more rounds — with a late arrival they feel rushed anyway. If time is left: half an hour on the range or on the putting green to get the drive out of your arms.

Saturday: The big round. A tee time between 9 and 10.30 am is the best compromise — the course has dried out, you finish around 3 pm and have the afternoon and evening free. Then spa, then dinner. Reserve the table when you book; good hotel restaurants are full on Saturdays.

Sunday: Nine holes before the journey home. Take an early tee time, finish around 11 am, then coffee, check-out, drive home. Nine instead of 18 holes sounds like a sacrifice, but it is the difference between arriving home relaxed and being done for on Sunday evening.

What to look out for when booking

Regions with many golf hotels

In Germany, Austria and Switzerland there are regions where courses and hotels lie so close together that you can reach several facilities within half an hour by car. For a short-trip weekend that is the decisive advantage: two different courses on two days without moving hotels. The golf regions on GolfRanger show you at a glance where the density is high and which facilities are worth considering in each case.

Conclusion

Plan short distances, one main round on Saturday and nine holes to round things off — then one weekend is completely enough. In the GolfRanger directory, under the Hotel category, you will find the facilities with accommodation on site; use the filters to narrow it down by region and compare what works for your weekend.
