Location and surroundings
Golfclub Varus lies on the edge of the Wiehengebirge hills, directly adjacent to the 20-hectare Museumspark Kalkriese; you play on the historic battlefield of the Varus Battle of 9 AD, in one of the few Nature & UNESCO Global Geoparks worldwide. The entire facility is set in an exceptionally scenic location, far from the hustle and traffic noise. From Osnabrück the club is around 23 minutes away; access is via the A1 Dortmund–Bremen, exit Bramsche, then the B 218 towards Bad Essen; the nearest airport is Münster-Osnabrück Airport (FMO).
The course
The 18-hole course is rated par 72.
The 18-hole course, with a total length of 6,032 m from the yellow men's tees, is harmoniously modelled into the flat, former moorland landscape: mature trees, natural water hazards, dense rough and well-kept greens between streams and ponds make it attractive and technically demanding. Thanks to a sophisticated drainage system, the course is playable all year round.
Facilities and dining
Practice facilities include a driving range and a pro shop. The restaurant Fairway in the clubhouse building is furnished in a modern country-house style, enjoys an excellent reputation well beyond the region and has a terrace.
Guests and green fees
The green fee is €60 on weekdays and €70 on weekends.
