Tournament announcement

The tournament announcement is the official announcement of a tournament with all its conditions.

The tournament announcement is the rulebook of a competition in short form. It defines who may take part, which format is played, how to register and which rankings there are. Typical content: date and starting time, format such as stroke play or Stableford, gross and net rankings, handicap limit, registration deadline and entry fee. Local rules for the tournament day and prizes also belong to it. Without an announcement no proper tournament — it is the basis on which nobody later has to argue about the conditions.

In practice you find the announcement on the notice board in the clubhouse, on the club website or in the online tournament calendar. Example: a club announces a monthly trophy tournament over 18 holes Stableford, open to members with a handicap up to 54, registration deadline two days before, tee times from 9 am. You register online, get your tee time assigned and know in advance exactly whether your round counts for your handicap. As a guest player, read the announcement particularly closely for guest conditions and handicap limits.

A frequent mistake is overlooking the details. Whoever only notes date and time experiences surprises: a handicap ceiling that excludes them from the ranking, or a format they did not know. The difference between handicap-relevant competitions and pure fun tournaments is also found only in the announcement. Read it completely before you register — it answers almost every question about the procedure, from the countback on ties to the prize for the winners.

FAQ

Where do I find the announcement for a tournament and why should I read it?

You find it on the notice board in the clubhouse, on the club website or in the online tournament calendar. It answers almost every question about the procedure: format, registration deadline, entry fee, rankings and whether the round counts for your handicap. Read it completely before you register, not only date and time.

Can it happen that despite registration I am not in the ranking?

Yes, for example if your handicap is above the limit of the announcement or the tournament is only open to certain classes. Such conditions are found exclusively in the announcement. Before registering, also check whether it is a handicap-relevant competition or a pure fun tournament.

What is the difference between gross and net ranking in the announcement?

Gross counts the pure strokes without handicap deduction; net deducts your handicap so that players of different strength are comparable with each other. At a Stableford tournament there are points instead of strokes, likewise ranked separately by gross and net. The announcement defines which rankings there are and how ties are resolved.
