Club-free / VcG

You are club-free if you play golf but have no home club.

Club-free means: you are a registered golfer with a handicap, but do not belong to any club as a member. In Germany the association of club-free golfers, in short VcG, organises exactly this way. Through the VcG you get an official DGV (German Golf Association) specification, access to many tournaments and insurance cover. The model is aimed at golfers who want to stay flexible. Whoever travels often or plays little pays this way only for the rounds he really plays. The alternative is the classic club membership with a home course.

For your golf everyday life that means concretely: you play as a guest on different facilities and pay everywhere the green fee. Your rounds that count towards the handicap you register through the VcG, your index is maintained there. Example: you live in the city, play sometimes here, sometimes there. Instead of an annual fee you pay an association fee plus green fees. Whoever is out and about like this should know the guest rules of the facilities, because some clubs demand from guests a minimum handicap.

Common misconception: club-free is not an unofficial status. The VcG is recognised and your specification counts like any other. The complete comparison of the models you read in the post on golf without membership. For the planning of your guest rounds the golf course search with guest rules per facility helps.

FAQ

Can I take part in tournaments as a club-free golfer?

Yes. Through the VcG you get an official DGV (German Golf Association) specification that counts like any other, and thereby access to many open tournaments. Some club-internal competitions remain reserved for members, but handicap-counting guest and association tournaments are open to you.

What costs will I face if I play club-free?

Instead of an annual fee to a club you pay an association fee to the VcG plus the green fee for every round played. For rare and casual players that is often cheaper than a membership. Whoever plays very often on the same facility should calculate both models through.

Are there restrictions if I play on other facilities without club membership?

You play everywhere as a guest and should know the guest rules of the respective facility. Some clubs demand from guests a minimum handicap or a handicap certificate, others limit guest times on weekends. A short look at the website or a call at the club office clarifies that before the journey.
